Following a successful installation of electric vehicle charge points at Vicarage Lane car park, Ashford Borough Council is delighted to announce that it has completed its initial phase of implementing EVCPs across the borough.

The Vicarage Lane car park installation now means that there are 29 electric vehicle charge points in the car parks in Ashford and Tenterden, with 53 connections. These can be found in the following locations:

Edinburgh Road car park (six)

Civic Centre car park (nine)

Vicarage Lane car park (three)

Station Road (Tenterden) car park (two)

Elwick Place car park (three)

Victoria Road car park (two)

Tenterden Leisure Centre car park (two)

Station Road (Ashford) car park (two)

With over 2000 registered electric vehicles within the borough and counting, having electric vehicle charge points in place is not only important from an Ashford Borough Council perspective to hit its carbon neutral target, but also for residents who are embracing modern technology.

“Completing these electric vehicle charge points installations in car parks across the borough reaffirms our commitment to being a Green Pioneer, as laid out within the council’s Corporate Plan,” said portfolio holder Cllr Simon Betty. “Electric vehicles are the future and are growing in popularity, so the more we can do to get ahead of the curve and assist our residents, the better.”

Kent County Council are also offering residents the chance to request charge points closer to their home, as they aim to have electric vehicle charge points in walking distance to any household that has an electric vehicle. Residents can suggest a potential charging point via the Kent County Council website.

The public charge points are owned and operated by Globe EV, previously owned by BMM Networks. The budget for installing the electric vehicle charge points was funded by the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Department for Transport.
